Former Barcelona forward Hristo Stoichkov believes that Inter's Lautaro Martinez will improve as a footballer if he makes the move to the Camp Nou.

The Argentine has been linked with Barcelona for several months and it seems increasingly likely that Lautaro will be wearing the Blaugrana's colours in the not-too-distant future.

"Martinez has great ability," Stoichkov told TyC Sports.

"He's going to learn a lot at Barcelona.

"He has a great teacher like Luis Suarez.

"And he will have a good understanding with [Lionel] Messi, [Antoine] Griezmann and [Ousmane] Dembele."

One of the things the Bulgarian likes most about Lautaro is his competitive spirit.

"He likes to compete a lot, not just score goals," Stoichkov stated.

"He's growing every day. I think he's proving that this year.

"The question is not whether he can play or not, the important thing is to compete."

In terms of Lautaro acclimatising to Barcelona's style of play, Stoichkov pointed to the importance of training.

"He has to train, he has to get into this style of play," he explained.

"I spent eight years at Barcelona playing both left and right [wing].

"Everyone is a substitute and a starter; it depends on how you train during the week."
