With Lautaro Martinez's move to Barcelona appearing to move ever closer to completion, Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has made clear that he can work well with Lionel Messi at the Camp Nou.

Scaloni will have more than one eye on how such a partnership develops in Catalonia, with the pair able to play together at international level for the Albiceleste.

"He can be complemented by Messi, the Barcelona coach must see how, but it's possible," Scaloni explained in an interview with La Red.

"Three forwards can play together, with [Luis] Suarez and [Antoine] Griezmann.

"In the Copa America, the commitment of Lautaro, Messi and [Sergio] Aguero was incredible."

Whilst a deal is not yet fully agreed upon by both Los Cules and Inter, Scaloni simply hopes that the young forward continues to get playing time.

"We would like him to have continuity, and even more so due to the fact he is a young player," he added.

"If Lautaro has something, it's that he runs for himself and for his teammates.

"He has the desire to become a reference for strikers in the future."

Having missed out on the unfortunate 2018 World Cup campaign with the Albiceleste, Lautaro needed to improve to break into the international setup, which he has done with Scaloni.

"The 2018 Lautaro isn't the one we see now," he confirmed.

"He's a footballer who is much more complete.

"For the World Cup he was just under consideration, which isn't the case now."
