Former Inter chairman Massimo Moratti is convinced that Inter have a chance of signing Lionel Messi.

Relations between Messi and the Barcelona board have become increasingly tense during the 2019/20 season and his contract is due to expire in June 2021.

"I don't believe Messi is a forbidden dream at all," Moratti told Radio Rai.

"Maybe it never was even before all this misfortune."

"He is in the final stretch of his contract and, without doubt, it would take a tremendous effort to bring him here.

"I don't know if the current situation changes anything for better or for worse.

"But I think we will see some strange things at the end of the year."

Messi has always expressed a desire to see out his career in Barcelona, but it has even been suggested that he could be part of a deal to bring Lautaro Martinez to the Camp Nou.

"He [Martinez] is a good boy who cares about his career," Moratti continued.

"But we'll see if he's part of a deal to bring in more important players like Leo Messi."
